Diagnostic Imaging

At Fit Physical Therapy, sometimes we see patients who come in with pain and injuries where the origin is unknown. This happens more commonly than people realize, and when a patient is unsure about the discomfort they are feeling, we can help provide some insight.

With our diagnostic testing services, a patient with pain or discomfort they are unsure about can come in and receive a diagnosis for what they are feeling – so they can be treated accordingly. Not only that, diagnostic testing can also help determine problem areas before a condition gets worse.

In a recent study, it was found that 60% of patients who had received diagnostic testing for their symptoms were able to be provided with more effective treatment plans. A wrong diagnosis can send a patient down the wrong treatment plan and can cause symptoms to get worse – diagnostic testing helps fix that.

Some common diagnostic tests we provide at Fit Physical Therapy include:

  • Electromyography Testing. EMG, also known as Electromyography, is a diagnostic test used as a way to analyze muscle health and their corresponding nerve cells. EMG can help determine if you have muscle dysfunction, nerve dysfunction, or other issues regarding the signal transmission between your muscles and nerves. During this test, a very small pin will be inserted into the affected muscle to test its condition and look for any nerve or muscle disorders.
  • Nerve Conduction Testing. A Nerve Conduction Test is used as a way to diagnose any damage or dysfunction in the nerves. It measures how quickly electrical signals are able to move through your peripheral nerves, which are located along your spinal cord and outside of your brain. When nerves are healthy, signals are strong and fast. When nerves are unhealthy, signals are weak and slow. During this test, a very mild electrical stimulation will be administered to the skin directly overlying the nerve in question, in order to test its condition and look for dysfunction.
  • MSKUS (musculoskeletal ultrasound) Imaging. This tool uses sonic waves to see inside painful areas of the patient’s body. It allows your physical therapist to analyze movement in certain joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves in the affected area, in order to figure out the source of the pain. This test provides similar results to that of an x-ray, CT, or MRI; however, it is non-invasive and much safer. The use of sonic waves does not put you in any exposure of radiation as similar tests do, and the real-time imaging provides more accurate results.

All of our tests are reliable and safe. If you are experiencing painful or uncomfortable symptoms and you are unsure why diagnostic testing can help. Contact Fit Physical Therapy today at Overton, Mesquite, NV & Hildale, Hurricane, St. George, UT & Scenic, Littlefield, AZ Centers to learn more about our services and how they can get you started on the right path toward relief.
