What is the Epley Omniax?
The Epley Omniax Positioning System at Fit Physical Therapy is a piece of technology that assists in the diagnosis and treatment of balance disorders, vertigo, and dizziness in patients. It’s used to assess abnormal eye movements which can aid the treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
This technology consists of a rotating chair, operating on two axes that move through a 360-degree range. After patients sit in this chair, they are secured with a harness and then are slowly moved into various positions. Infrared video goggles record the patient’s eye movements while they are being rotated, and these results can be studied and analyzed in order to make a correct diagnosis.
The Epley Omniax provides data measurements, playback, and printed reports that allow for Overton, Mesquite, NV & Hildale, Hurricane, St. George, UT & Scenic, Littlefield, AZ physical therapists and other medical professionals to compare and standardize a patient’s results after using the chair.
Reasons for dizziness and vertigo
BPPV is one of the most common reasons for vertigo, and one of the conditions that this technology can help with. BPPV can cause an individual to feel sensations of mild to severe and intense bouts of dizziness throughout their day, which might be triggered by changes in how their head is positioned.
Normally this condition isn’t serious, but it certainly can be if it causes the person experiencing its symptoms to completely lose their balance and fall. This can result in numerous injuries and health conditions that worsen as one ages.
The Epley Omniax can help improve the symptoms of BPPV for patients of all sizes and builds. It’s a safe and comfortable way for patients and Overton, Mesquite, NV & Hildale, Hurricane, St. George, UT & Scenic, Littlefield, AZ physical therapists to treat balance issues and can be incorporated into many different treatment plans depending on the needs of the patient.
